More Kwik Trip stores coming to region

In June 2014, Scott Teigen told the News Tribune that by the end of 2015, Kwik Trip would have 15 stores in the Northland.

That’s going from zero to 15 stores in just 18 months.

Teigen’s projection was close.

As the end of 2015 approaches, the last of 14 Kwik Trip gas and convenience stores will open, stretching from Duluth to Moose Lake, in the chain’s dramatic entry into the Twin Ports market.

Miller Hill Mall Santa set goes high tech

For years Miller Hill Mall officials have wanted a new Santa set for children’s visits and photos with Santa Claus during the holiday shopping season.
The current set — Santa’s house with trees with lights, old-fashioned street lamps and a white picket fence — has been used at the mall for 35 years. And when it arrived, it already had been used at Maplewood Mall in the Twin Cities.

“It’s showing its age; we can no longer fluff it up,” said Machelle Kendrick, the mall’s outgoing marketing director who was among those lobbying owner Simon Property Group for a new set.

This year the mall got its wish.

For its 25 years in business. Stauber Brothers Pro Shop & Custom Apparel in Duluth has offered a full line of sporting goods.

But its owners — five brothers from a renowned hockey family — are the first to admit that sports like soccer and baseball are not their forte.

“Hockey has always been our strong suit,” said Jamie Stauber who owns the business with his brothers John, Pete, Robb and Bill.
